It’s difficult to believe that it has been five years since the release of Old School RuneScape. The game, which was released on February 22nd, 2013, is still going strong with over two million players logging in each day. In celebration of this milestone and the upcoming release of Old School RuneScape Mobile, we’re looking back at some of the best moments from the game so far. Old School RuneScape started out as a simple idea – “let’s make an update to our 2007 version of RuneScape” – but quickly became something much more. It was clear early on that this new project had potential for greatness; there were hundreds upon hundreds of ideas bouncing around about what type niche could be covered. Eventually, we decided to go back in time and create an old school version of RuneScape that would be free-to-play with none of the microtransactions or memberships found in our 2007 game. The response from players was overwhelmingly positive; they loved the idea and were eager for us to release it as soon as possible. In just six months – half the planned development time – Old School RuneScape launched alongside a new website dedicated exclusively to it: runescape2007.com (now known as osrsc.com).
