3. SpongeBob’s constant optimism makes him a truly inspirational character.
He is always smiling, upbeat and optimistic in the most trying circumstances, including the death of his beloved pet snail Gary (and even after he finds a new pet that he dies – again!) and when his boss Mr. Krabs is being constantly mean to him. His little smile never fades despite these very difficult situations.
4. SpongeBob is an absolute master at fixing things in his world, without help from others.
Despite being horribly incompetent at fixing things himself (he accidentally created a giant robot that wanted revenge on everyone) SpongeBob manages to fix just about anything around him without anyone else having to interfere or taking over… and a lot of the time this is just silly luck.
5. SpongeBob has a very supportive and accepting family, who even treats him half-jokingly (or not-so-half jokingly) as a child at times.
His dad gives him responsibility without being strict, while his mom is understanding when he messes up but still has affection for him. His best friends Patrick and Squidward are incredibly supportive yet also mildly teasing at times (Patrick’s “SpongeCake” comment to SpongeBob about trying to free Kelp-Head from captivity was probably the most subtle form of teasing in the entire series). Even SpongeBob’s boss Mr. Krabs treats him like a human being and tries to help him when he is in need of a job (which, given the circumstances, is often).
6. SpongeBob has his faith in humanity and the forces around him to pull him out of any possible jam.
He believes in fairies, angels and the mysterious voices he hears (the latter of which are all best described as “lucky”). Even when most people haven’t taken his superstitions seriously at first he continues to believe that they are real and will come true… or at least give him wise advice that can help. When he hears the voices for the first time at the Krusty Krab he thinks that it is a kind of advice from his father Patrick and even imagines them giving him good advice – and this includes avoiding the germs in his horrible new job at the Chum Bucket.
7. SpongeBob’s repetitive dreams show how “very” important someone is to him.
SpongeBob often dreams of being with his deceased pet snail Gary, who also plays a prominent role in his daydreams along with Patrick (who is always helping him out), their neighbor Mr. Krabs, Squidward (when he is just using him as a “footstool” at first) and a whole bunch of other characters.
