The Staff Selection Commission (SSC), formed on November 04, 1975, and headquartered in New Delhi, India is the division of the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). It is the premier Indian organisation to recruit staff for various posts in various Ministries, Departments, and Organisations in the Government of India.

The SSC JE recruitment exam is conducted for 1000+ vacancies for civil, mechanical, electrical & quantity surveying & contract posts every year. The Exam has Four stage: 

  • Paper 1 – Objective Type Questions for 200 marks
  • Paper 2 – Written Descriptive Test for 300 marks
  • Document Verification
  • Medical Examination

SSC JE Syllabus 

The syllabus for SSC JE covers the B.Tech syllabus in context to the technical part. The standard of the questions will be that of the level of Diploma in Engineering. (Civil/ Electrical/ Mechanical/Electronics). However, the difference occurs in the non-technical part, i.e., General Intelligence & Reasoning and General Awareness.

SSC JE Paper 1 Syllabus

In this paper the candidate will have to answer 200 MCQs within 2 hours. There is one forth marks deduction for wrong answer. Passing this exam is necessary to move onto Paper 2 of SSC JE Exam. Section 1 – General Intelligence and Reasoning (50 MCQs)

Analogies, Similarities, Differences, Space visualization, Analysis, Judgement, Decision making, Visual memory, Discrimination, Observation, Relationship concepts, Arithmetical reasoning, Verbal and figure classification, Arithmetical number series

Section 2 – General Awareness (50 MCQs)

Questions will be aimed at testing the candidate’s general awareness of the surroundings around him/her and its application to society. The section majorly covers Current Affairs and Static G.K including, India and its neighbouring countries events, History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Polity and Scientific Research, etc.

Section 3 – General Engineering (100 MCQs)

The candidate has to choose from any of the following engineering papers as per his or hier educational qualification. : 

Part A – Civil Engineering

Soil Mechanics, Building Materials, Transportation Engineering, Estimating, Costing and Valuation, Surveying, Irrigation Engineering, Hydraulics, Environmental Engineering, Structural Engineering (Theory of Structures, RCC Design, Concrete Technology, Steel Design).

Part B – Electrical Engineering

Basic concepts, Magnetic Circuit, Circuit law, Measurement and Measuring instruments, Electrical Machines, AC Fundamentals, Fractional Kilowatt Motors and single phase induction Motors, Synchronous Machines, Generation, Transmission and Distribution, Estimation and Costing, Utilization and Electrical Energy, Basic Electronics.

Part C – Mechanical Engineering

Theory of Machines, Engineering Mechanics, Machine Design, Strength of Materials, Thermodynamics, Refrigeration & Air Conditioners, I.C Engines, Power Plan Engineering, Fluid Mechanics, Classification of steels.

SSC JE Paper 2 Syllabus

The paper 2 for SSC JE conducted in 3 parts – Part A (Civil Engineering), Portion B (Electrical Engineering) and Part C (Mechanical Engineering). Depending on their specialisation, candidates can choose any one part.

Part A – Civil Engineering

Building Materials, Costing, Estimating, and Valuation, Transportation Engineering, Surveying, Soil Mechanics, Environmental Engineering, Hydraulics, Irrigation Engineering, Structural Engineering (Theory of Structures, Concrete Technology, RCC Design, Steel Design).

Part B – Electrical Engineering

Basic Concepts, AC Fundamentals, Measurement and Measuring Instruments, Electrical Machines, Fractional Kilowatt Motors, and Single-Phase Induction Motors, Synchronous Machines, Generation, Transmission, and Distribution, Estimation, and Costing, Utilisation of Electrical Energy, Basic Electronics.

Part C – Mechanical Engineering
