In this post, we will explore the various types of data filters that you can use to change the appearance and content of your collected data.

What are Data Filters?

Many data visualizations provide a means to filter the information being displayed. This means you can set parameters for what information should be shown or hidden from view. 

1. Filtering by Date.

If a filter is set by date, then only records sharing that same date will be visible in the graph or chart. However, all of the other chart data points will still be visible within the graph legend. Filtering by Date & Time:  If a filter is set to be date and time, then only records sharing those same date and time parameters will be visible in the graph or chart.

2. Filtering by Category.

If a filter is set to be a category, then only records sharing that same category will be visible in the graph or chart. However, all of the other chart data points will still be visible within the graph legend. 

This gives you real-time insight into what may have happened prior, during or after an event that may have influenced your metrics and allows you to take preventive measures if needed.

3. Filtering by Value.

If a filter is set to be value, then only records sharing that same value will be visible in the graph or chart. However, all of the other chart data points will still be visible within the graph legend. This allows you to seek out patterns in your data over time and helps you see where your major spikes occurred.

4. Filtering by Status/Owner/Team etc..

If a filter is set to be status, owner or any other field associated with content within Jira Software, then only records sharing that same status/owner/team etc. will be visible in the graph or chart. This allows you to view data specific to your team or group in a glance.

5. Filtering by Workflow Status.

If a filter is set to be workflow status, then only records sharing that same state will be visible in the graph or chart. However, all of the other chart data points will still be visible within the graph legend. 

This means you can view statistics relevant to any workflow state that exists within Jira Software and helps you determine whether action needs to be taken based on your workflow status at any given moment.

6. Filtering by Sub-Task Status.

If a filter is set to be sub-task status, then only records sharing that same state will be visible in the graph or chart. However, all of the other chart data points will still be visible within the graph legend. 

This allows you to view data specific to your team or group in a glance and help determine if action needs to be taken based on your workflow status at any given moment.

7. Filtering by Issue Type/Priority etc..

If a filter is set to an issue type or priority, then only records sharing that same type/priority will be visible in the graph or chart. However, all of the other chart data points will still be visible within the graph legend. 

This allows you to view data specific to your team or group in a glance and helps you determine if action needs to be taken based on your workflow status at any given moment.

8. Filtering by Custom Metric Value.

If a filter is set to a custom made metric, then only records sharing that same metric value will be visible in the graph or chart. However, all of the other chart data points will still be visible within the graph legend. 

This allows you to seek out patterns in your data over time and helps you see where major spikes have occurred with regards to your custom made metric.

9. Filtering by Label Color/Icon etc..

If a filter is set to a label color or icon, then only records sharing that same color/icon will be visible in the graph or chart. However, all of the other chart data points will still be visible within the graph legend. 

This allows you to view data specific to your team or group in a glance and helps you determine if action needs to be taken based on your workflow status at any given moment.

10. Filtering by Email Address.

If a filter is set to certain email addresses, then only records sharing those same email addresses will be visible in the graph or chart. However, all of the other chart data points will still be visible within the graph legend.
