As curly girls, we’ve all been told countless times that our hair black curtain bangs are tough to tame. It requires much more work than other hair types, and it’s not just because of the curls. But if you’re looking for a new way to groom your locks without fighting them every step of the way, read on!
Curly Hair Method Smackdown! is here to help you choose which kind of curl method will work best for your hair type and lifestyle. We’ll give you an overview of each type and break down what it entails in terms of maintenance – from how often you need to wash up through whether or not curlers are needed (hint: they usually aren’t).
1. WASH & GO – The Only Hair Style You Need
Some curly girls never use curlers or any other sort of hair styling product. They simply wash and go, allowing their natural curls to take shape. Others, who want more definition or volume, choose to add a little bit of gel or spray to their hair while it is wet in order to control the curls.
If this sounds like you, congratulations! You’re one of the lucky ones who can get out of the house with mostly natural-looking curls that go wild in all the right ways. (Note: It may take a few tries to find exactly what your hair likes and how much product your curls need so they look their best. Everyone is different, and finding what works for you is part of the fun!)
2. COILED & OTHERWISE – A Chance to Be Creative
Some curly girls choose to wear their hair in a variety of ways beyond just letting it dry on its own. To achieve this look, the hair is usually curly or coiled with curlers. This allows the curls to be more defined and uniform, which may make your hair appear healthier than it actually is. For example, a coil might be used in your crown area and another one for the front of your head.
But if you want to try something new with your hair – and you have the patience to sit down every day for several hours and style it – we can help. We’ve found that …
3. PULLOUT & OTHERWISE – How to Get Out of the House
A lot of us are intimidated by our curls when we try to walk out of home. Most methods we’ve tried so far have just resulted in further frustration, because they don’t work with our texture or life situation. Pulling out the hair and combining gel with it is not the answer. Who has the time – or wants to spend it doing that? In this article, I’m going to give you a method that will work for you. It’s easy, and it’s fast – and I promise you that by following this method, your hair will look better than ever!
4. TIGHTLY COILED – Caring for Tight Coils
Some curly girls choose to try new styles by wearing their hair in tightly coiled sections. There are several ways to achieve this look: You can create a tight coil at the back of your head using the Jheri curl method (see picture below). The hair is tightly coiled on the sides of your head, making a spiral that goes around the whole head.
You can also have tight coils in the crown area, as shown in these pictures.
Or you can simply create a coil at the top of your head as shown here:
And if you like this look, but you’re sick of using curlers every day, I’ve got good news for you! You don’t have to! You can wear your hair this way without curlers and still get a great result. (This takes some practice, though; so please be patient and remember that not everyone will achieve this result straight out of the shower. You may have to try it out a few times before you get the hang of it.)
To do this, follow these steps:
5. NATURAL – Caring for Natural Hair
Some curly girls choose to wear their hair completely natural, or almost completely natural. This type of styling is for your hair only – no other products need to be applied unless you want them to. Wearing your hair in its natural state may require more maintenance and preparation than the other hairstyles mentioned here. But it’s worth it for many, because our natural hair is beautiful. Treating it with a little extra care can do wonders and make you love your hair even more.
