Introduction to Ninja Turtle Skateboard Games:
Ninja Turtle Skateboard Games is a game which brings together the Ninja Turtles and skateboard style of gameplay. 17 levels of platforming with 3 difficulty levels makes this game one of the more challenging and enjoyable games in recent years.
Similar games are trending right now, such as Celeste on Nintendo Switch but this game has something that sets it apart from these other titles: simple but addictive level design. One particular level really brought me back to my childhood. There is no substitute for nostalgia like that and it’s enough to make anyone who grew up playing NES games just go wild over it.
Features of the game:
The features of the game are simple – similar to a NES platformer of the past. You go through each level, avoiding obstacles (constantly twisting pipes in the air with gap jumps) while collecting points and power ups. There is a running timer on the upper left corner which starts at 300 seconds and counts down every time an obstacle appears before you. Jumping off of an obstacle resets your timer back to 300.
The only way to stop it, however, is to fall off the screen or die in any other way than that. 17 unique levels. 3 difficulty modes that range from “BARE CHEST” to “HEARTLESS.” Level editor on the website, level sharing and gameplay sharing is also supported.
Where is the game available?
The game is available on Steam and Humble Store. The price is $9.99 USD and the developers also offer a 10% off coupon “10 PERCENT OFF” which you can use to buy the game after you’ve already bought it in order to own a license of the game.
Age limit of the game?
The game is E (Everyone) rated. I’d give it a PG rating because of the theme of being ninjas and there being blood in one particular cutscene. If you’ve ever wanted to be a kid growing up playing retro games – then Ninja Turtle Skateboard Games is the perfect game for you.
Last but not least, fans of the Ninja Turtles from all over the world can now enjoy a pixelated version of their favorite superhero turtles. There is also a level editor on their website that allows users to create levels for others to play and gives them exposure for their originality and creativity in making levels which are enjoyable to play.
Advantages of the game?
This is a great game, very well made. The development team is working on the next chapter of the series and this one certainly doesn’t disappoint. I would buy this game again if it were stolen or lost. They are a rare breed nowadays when it comes to retro games inspired by older generations of games. I am happy to see that there are still people out there who put in their time and effort in making a retro throwback game for us old timers to enjoy.
Are there any disadvantages?
I wouldn’t say there is anything BAD about this game, it’s just that some of the levels are a bit boring and repetitive. If you were to start playing it again 10 years after you’ve played it, I’m sure you’d be bored out of your mind. Many people forget the memories they had with games like this when they get old and bored.
There really is no challenge in playing the game on BARE CHEST difficulty and even HEARTLESS difficulty can be beaten on your first try after dying a handful of times. Though, if you’re someone who didn’t grow up playing games during the NES era – then this game might not be for you as it may become more frustrating than fun for you to play.
What makes this game so unique?
I like how they put a lot of things from the old series into this game. The levels are basic but super fun and addictive. I think it’s a great game for people who only want to play an old-time favorite game that’s easy to pick up and put down whenever you want.
How to play this game?
The controls of the game are simple but tricky – reminiscent of many games from the NES era. There is an on-screen gamepad which you can use if you feel like it. The controls for that are: LEFT & RIGHT to move, DOWN to crouch, UP to jump, and A to ENTER DOOR. Heads up display: The heads up display in Ninja Turtle Skateboard Games consists of the following:
The timer that counts down every time an obstacle appears before you. (300 seconds) A ninja turtle head icon that tells you which turtle you are playing as at that time.
What do I think?
Ninja Turtle Skateboard games have a lot of potential and I believe that it deserves more attention than it’s getting right now due to the lack of media coverage on websites (only one site wrote about this gem at all… o_O) . I hope that this article changes that even slightly.
